Gabbra Family relief print

Relief print / linocut (2019)

Inspired by travel in northern Kenya to the Samburu, Rendille, Molo, Gabbra and Turkana ethnic groups close to the border with Ethiopia. We encountered a semi-nomadic Gabbra settlement as we drove through the desert towards the area where we would pitch our tents. This family was very welcoming and we spent some time there - and were able to display our gratitude by giving them wound care items for an injured child.
I chose this particular image to work from as it reminded me of the iconic photo series "Destitute Pea Pickers in California: Mother of Seven Children" by Dorothea Lange
